The papers document various aspects of Professor Arndt's career, including his work for "Quadrant", his academic career, during which he published numerous works, and his extensive involvement with Asian economic development. Included in the papers are correspondence, working papers, unpublished papers by others, lecture notes, papers relating to a number of the Arndt's publications, conference and seminar papers. There are also notes and papers on various bodies such as the United Nations Asian Institute for Economic Development and Planning, the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS), Economic Meetings of the Commonwealth Bank and the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR). An economist whose academic career included 29 years at the Australian National University, where he was Professor of Economics from 1963 until 1980. Arndt was the author of many publications, was a member of the Governing Council of the United Nations Asian Institute for Economic Development and Planning and was a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
